Martín Varela is a Galician artist specialized in illusionism. He was born in Ferrol in 1996 and from a very young age he showed a growing interest in the performing arts, mainly in magic, but also in dance and circus.

In 2007, at the age of 11, he gave his first public performance at the Alianzas Aresanas (Ares, A Coruña). From the great reception of that first performance, he continued performing dozens of shows in neighborhood associations and municipalities of his environment.

During 2010 he began working on “15 ilusións para unha noite”, a show with which he would tour Galicia performing more than 10 shows in theatres and auditoriums. In 2011 he was invited by the programme Luar of the Galician Television to participate for a season as a collaborator.

That same year he founded, along with other colleagues, the “Colectivo Mágico Lorc & Julit”, an association of magicians from Ferrol created with the aim of expanding magic throughout Ferrolterra. Among its activities highlighted the realization of several tours of shows by the region, training activities and collaboration in projects of the different illusionists who are part of the group.

In 2013 he premiered the show “Manifiesto”, a  grand illusions show with which he toured Galicia until 2014, the year in which he performed at Magic Valongo (Ermesinde, Portugal) as a guest artist and at the Robert Houdin Magic Gala (Plaza de María Pita, A Coruña).

His early professional life on stage was combined between 2014 and 2019 with his academic training in Art History at the University of Santiago de Compostela and Cultural Management and Creative Industries at the University of Alcalá.

In parallel, he created “Serendipia” (2016), a medium-format show whose main plot is about what the discovery of magic meant to him, as an authentic vital illusion, as well as serving as a tribute to two fundamental references in his magical career: Lorc & Julit and John Calvert.

Between 2018 and the present, he promotes together with Thinking Up Events, the City Council of Ferrol and the Lorc & Julit Magic Collective the festival “Porta Máxica”, an event that brings together some of the most outstanding illusionists of the international scene in the city of Ferrol. Together with Thinking Up Events, since 2018, he creates and coordinates the production of projects of different performing and musical arts.

During 2022, he creates “Inventio”, an ambitious show including dance, circus, magic and music created to celebrate the Xacobeo 21-22, with which more than 30 functions are performed in different cities of the peninsula.
